Bens Wine Shop Relocates

We have moved the shop to within the Bat & Bottle fold.
2012 promises to be a more lean and frugal year for us all, so we have started the year pro-actively, by reducing all unnecessary costs. The good news is therefore Ben's Wine Shop will benefit from increased opening hours and a greater number of wines available.

Andy and Jo of Hirst & Hirst on Church Street have very kindly offered to be a collection point if Pillings Rd feels to awkward to get to, but you know what ...? .... it's easy! ... just off the bypass or a lovely 10 mins walk on from the centre of town past all the allotments.
See you there, or speak to you soon.

Cascina Marassino Barbaresco 2007

Lovely Nebbiolo for a gorgeous spring day in Oakham.
I have tasted my way though quite a few 2007 Nebbiolo and it is a unique vintage, the winter was almost non-existant and spring came early, this meant that the harvest also was early but not because it was particularly hot. So the wines have the forward characteristics of an early harvest without the burnt rubber flavours.
This is ready to drink! Strawberry, rose and violet - none of the black tea and tar that young nebbiolo usually assaults the senses with, this is a real crowd pleaser.

New opening hours by Emma

Some people that haven't met us think we're mad!
Opening Bens Wine Shop on 'weekends only' isn't an indulgence in the way a stranger to us would imagine ... quite simply, if we opened it any more hours, we would have to pay staff and that would mean closing down again!

So ... Ben works in the Bat and Bottle warehouse (shoppers are also very welcome here at Pillings Rd LE15 6QF) from Monday to Thursday, where he is accompanied by Alex.

Ben is at Bens Wine Shop on Fridays (when we never send out parcels for mail order delivery).

Alex and I alternate our Saturdays in the wonderful little cavern of gems (possibly the smallest wine shop in the UK) whilst Ben banishes himself once again back to the warehouse to greet enthusiasts who are more inclined towards just italian wines.

I work full time elsewhere Mondays to Fridays, (16 years was all it took to teach Ben to do his own admin), so we really can't stretch ourselves any thinner to open the doors, you all need to buy a lot more wine before we could dream of becoming a convenient store!

Still, that would destroy the point ... wouldn't it?
